Private Equity and Banking

From first teaser to data room, the reading is done for you. The investment decision stays with your partners.

Three measures say a great deal about how an investment firm is running: how much inbound deal flow is properly assessed, not just skimmed; how quickly the deal team reaches a view in a competitive process; and how much is lost in abort costs on deals that were never going to complete. All three come down to the same constraint. Nothing can be judged until it has been read, and the people qualified to judge are the scarcest resource you have.

Inbound deal flow assessed against the investment strategy before it reaches a partner.
“The AI workflow Fusion AI built now handles our inbound deal flow, automatically prioritising and assessing opportunities against our investment strategy. It removed a huge amount of noise from our inbox and allows us to focus only on deals that genuinely fit. It has become part of our core operating process.”

Running cost

Measured on the client's own question set, before and after the rebuild.

The situation

The client’s platform answers research questions across a very large estate of documents and data, the kind of question that would otherwise take an analyst a day of reading. In a product like this, speed is what customers are paying for.

What was wrong

Its own customers were calling the product unusable. Answers took so long that people stopped asking questions, and from the outside there was no obvious reason why. Behind each answer sat a search across a very large corpus, a chain of tool calls running one after another, and far more data than any single question needed. The slowest questions in the client’s test set took more than two minutes.

The same applies to a data room, a research archive or a diligence pack: most of the cost lies in finding the right material, and that is a design problem.

What was done
  1. 01Redesigned the retrieval pipeline from the ground up, because the limits were built into the design and no amount of tuning would remove them.
  2. 02Parallelised the tool calls that had been running one after another, removing most of the waiting.
  3. 03Matched the model to each task, tested against a fixed set of questions, so the most expensive model is used only where it measurably improves the answer.
  4. 04Added caching wherever the system was repeating the same work for every question.
  5. 05Introduced continuous evaluation, so accuracy and speed are measured every time the system changes, not discovered through a customer complaint.

In systems like this, speed, accuracy and cost are decided by the design. When a product feels slow to the people paying for it, the fix usually lies in how the work is structured, not in how much computing power sits behind it.

The client was operating in stealth at the time, so we describe it by sector and location instead of by name.

Illustrative. This is the screen before an NDA, not due diligence. The criteria are yours, and the decision stays with the partner.

What we build for investors and banks

These are the problems investment firms and banks raise with us most often. It is not an exhaustive list: discovery decides what your firm needs, and occasionally the answer is none of the below.

Shadow mode

Proved on your own work before it goes live

No system takes over any part of your operation on the day it is finished. It runs in shadow mode first, alongside the people doing the work today. It screens the same inbound deal flow against your criteria and works through the same packs, but it replies to no adviser and writes to none of your systems. Your existing process carries on exactly as before, so at no point are you relying on something unproven.

You can then set what it would have passed on, what it would have taken to NDA and why, and what its research found against the calls your partners made. Shadow running lasts as long as you want it to, on your own work.

When you are satisfied with the results, you decide when it goes live, and you can start with part of the work. From then on, the system does the work it has shown it can do.

Questions

The first conversation is free. Beyond that, we quote a fixed price once we both know exactly what is being built, and nothing is charged until the scope and the price have been agreed in writing.

Discovery usually takes one to two weeks. Build time depends on the system, and the timetable is fixed in the quote.

No. We handle discovery, design, build, deployment and testing. Your team's role is to explain how the work is done today and to approve what we propose.

It does not go live until that question has been answered with evidence. Every new system first runs in shadow mode: it works on your real cases alongside your team, but changes nothing and contacts no one. You compare its output with your team’s for as long as you need to, and it goes live only when you are satisfied and decide to switch it on. Once live, anything it is unsure about is passed to a person.

Your data stays in your own environment wherever the work allows. Access is limited to what each system needs, every action is logged, and nothing leaves your environment unless you decide it should. Data is handled in line with UK GDPR and is never used to train AI models.

Your existing document stores, data rooms, CRM and reporting tools, as they are. In the retrieval case study on this site, the client did not have to change any of its own systems.

No. Every system sits in your own cloud account, is built on standard, well-documented technology that any competent developer can maintain, and is handed over with full documentation. You can keep us on for support, but you never have to.
