Fee reviews that arrive with the evidence attached
The cost to serve each client is calculated, compared with the fee, and turned into a renewal pack a partner can take into the conversation.
The problem
Fees get set once and inherited for years. The workload grows, staff costs rise, and the fee stays where it was.
Partners usually have a sense of which clients are underpriced. Proving it client by client, at renewal, across hundreds of clients, is the part that never gets done.
What the system does
- 01Builds the true cost to serve each client from time, disbursements and job history.
- 02Compares it with the fee, and ranks clients by the size of the gap.
- 03Prepares a renewal pack for each one: the work done, the fee, the proposed fee and the reasons.
- 04Tracks which increases were proposed, accepted or declined, and what happened next.
The numbers it moves
- Average fee per client
- Measured across the whole client base, and separately across the clients actually repriced.
- Margin
- Measured client by client, so loss-making work is visible.
What you can check
Every proposed increase is logged against the client, and only accepted increases count towards reported value.
What it looks like
Illustrative. Built around your firm, your clients and the systems you already run.
Questions
- Will this push clients away?
- Repricing remains a partner decision, client by client. The pack is there so the conversation rests on evidence instead of awkwardness, and you decide which clients are in scope and how far fees move.
- How do you work out cost to serve if our time records are patchy?
- Time is used where it is recorded, and job activity, document volumes and communication history fill the gaps. Discovery establishes which of these your practice can rely on before anything is built.
- Can we exclude clients from repricing?
- Yes. Clients, sectors or whole partner portfolios can be excluded, and the exclusions are recorded so the reported results stay accurate.
